Working With Families – an Intensive Family Support tool for people working in the NT

The Parenting Resource Centre (PRC) engaged Black Wattle Consulting in 2011-2012 to develop this topic based content resource for Northern Territory Intensive Family Support Workers. The topics were identified as key concerns by workers in the Intensive Family Support Service (IFSS) and in consultations. The topics covered are:

  • Loving, caring and holding
  • Good sleep for kids
  • Getting kids to school
  • Culture is good for kids
  • Wash and clean
  • Respect house rules
  • Kids and behaviour.

The illustrations are based on input from Alice Springs consultations with individuals, families and agencies. They are simple, strength based line drawings, easy to photocopy, adapt, colour in or make cards from. The workers may use these materials with families to inspire and fuel conversation about what is good for kids.  The resource is useful for workers in other areas.
